Written in 2012, this is about the Cornley drama society that carries out the 1920s murder mystery “Murder at the Hubersham House,” a play in the play, play in the play, but as the title suggests, everything that could be wrong is… Thespian, who is prone to accidents, fights against all possibilities, brings hilarious results, leading to the final curtain call.
Before play begins, the audience sees behind the scenes staff fixing the broken mantel and making last minute adjustments to the set, including finding the escaped dog.
During the performance, a large number of disasters can be descended on the cast, including doors stuck on, props falling off the wall, and floors collapsed. Members of the cast are seen as misplaced props, forgotten lines, missing clues, breaking characters, misworded words, stomping on fingers, hidden by his grandfather’s clock, unconsciously knocked and manipulated from the stage.
“The Play That That Mused” won the best new play at the Broadway World UK Award and the Laurence Olivier Award from Best New Comedy in 2015.
It is translated and produced in over 30 countries, including China, Spain, Greece, France, Italy, Brazil, Germany, Mexico, Argentina, Turkey and Russia.
