Tehran – “Hear,” a puppet show by Iranian ensemble Yase Tamam, led by director Zahra Khialy Sabri, will be performed at the ongoing festival Mondial de Tor de Torrel de Marion Net (FMTM) at Charlebir Mezieres, Frances.
Commissioned by theatres and puppet theater production centres of the Institute of Intellectual Development for Iranian Children and Young Adults, the canoon, is designed for both teenagers and adults.
Inspired by the story of the Persian poet and mysterious Morana Jalal ad dyn Rumi and the “Fish to Hear the Voice of the Sea,” Sabri herself “hear the Voice of the Sea,” the performance will take place on Thursday and Friday at the French Cartialtart.
“Listen” tells the story of a fish dreaming of the ocean. Using delicate paper dolls, Yasetamum weaves poetic f-tales about longing, freedom and hope, blending Persian storytelling with Western aesthetics.
The story centers around a fish who dreams of freedom and lives in a bowl. It is told through the perspective of a parrot who tells the famous story of “The Parrot and the Merchant.” The story describes a kind Iranian merchant who owned a beautiful parrot trapped in a cage. Before traveling to India, he asked his servant what gift he wanted. A parrot who longs for justice and liberation, demanded that merchants explain the light letter to the parrot of India, questioning the fairness of imprisonment while others flew freely.
When the merchants conveyed the message, it caused distress among the parrots. A parrot trembles, falls, and dies. Later, when a merchant told his own parrot in Iran about the message, his parrot was overwhelmed with grief and died. Full of regret, he kicked the parrot out of the cage, and she flew away, symbolizing the consequences of her longing for freedom and neglect.
The biennial festival, Mondial de Teatres de Marionette, is one of the most prestigious global events in puppet shows. Renowned groups from around the world will showcase the latest productions and turn the city into a vibrant setting for art forms. Many of Zahra Khialy Sabri’s rave reviews have been featured previously and widely praised at the festival, including “The Earth and the Ring,” “Until One Counts,” “Soil and Crown,” and “The House of Bernard Alba.”
Following its premiere in France, “Hear” will be performed in various cities in Tehran and Iran, continuing a series of performances alongside the National Theatre Tour.
