TEHRAN – Oliver Lacks’ 2025 drama “Sirat” was screened on Monday at the Iranian Artists Forum (IAF) in Tehran.
Following the screening of the film at IAF’s Naseri Hall, a review session was held in the presence of film critic and documentary filmmaker Saeed Nouri, Mair reported.
“Silaat” tells the story of a father and son Luis (Sergi López) and Esteban (Bruno Nuñez Arjona) who search for their missing daughter and sister Marina in the desert of southern Morocco. Driven by fate, they decide to follow a group of ravers in search of the last party, hoping Marina will be there.
Inspired by the Bridge of Sirat, which separates hell and heaven in the Islamic tradition, the film is a spiritual road movie that explores physical wandering, borders, and introspection, themes that are omnipresent in the French-Spanish filmmaker’s work.
More political and radical than his previous works, Laxse’s fourth feature film was shot on location in Spain and Morocco, and the director follows the path of a lone figure in internal exile, traversing both literal and figurative deserts.
This Spanish-French co-production film had its world premiere in the main competition section of the 78th Cannes Film Festival in May, where it won the Jury Prize.
It was selected for the Spanish category for Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards.
Oliver Lux Coro, 43, is a French-born Spanish film director, screenwriter and actor of Galician descent.
His debut feature film, You All Are Captains, premiered in the Directors’ Fortnight section of the 2010 Cannes Film Festival and won the International Federation of Critics Award.
His second feature, Mimosa, was shot in the Atlas Mountains and was screened in the Critics’ Week section of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival and won the Nespresso Grand Prize.
