Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714–1788) was a Baroque and classical German composer and musician. He was the second surviving son of Johann Sebastian Bach.
Known as the “Berlin Bach” and later the “Hamburg Bach”, he was a key figure in the transition from Baroque to classical music. His keyboard works, especially those of Empfinsammer Stir, emphasized expressiveness and emotional depth and foreshadowed Romantic music.
Bach was also a respected teacher, writing the influential Essay on the True Art of Keyboard Playing, which influenced composers such as Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. His work transcended stylistic boundaries and shaped the evolution of Western classical music.
