TEHRAN – The poster for the 19th Iran International Documentary Film Festival “Cinema Verité” has been released, highlighting fresh and bold perspectives inspired by Iranian culture.
The unveiling ceremony of the poster for the 19th Cinema Vérité was held in Tehran on Monday, IRNA reported.
Commenting on the poster, festival secretary general Mohammad Hamidi Moghaddam said: “Since 2019, following Reza Abedini’s artistic direction, the colors we have consistently used in recent years have been green and orange. Over time, those colors and designs have changed It has become an identifier of cinema verité. This year, we strived to maintain those colors and that identifier while creating a fresh visual atmosphere. Bahram California’s collaboration helped us shape this new space and take it in the next direction.” A new experience. ”
“This year, the festival underwent a renewal and had to open a new window on the world and the concept of documentary film. This was embodied in the poster through the collaboration with master Bahram Calhounia,” he added.
Bahram Kalhornia, 73, is a veteran drawing artist, sculptor, graphic designer, painter, researcher, and educator in the arts.
Hamidi Moghaddam pointed out the diversity of films and filmmakers at this year’s festival, saying, “This year we have an excellent line-up of films in both the domestic and international categories, bringing the works of major filmmakers to the screens. This year’s national and international categories will have much to offer documentary film lovers.”
“The documentary photobook category at the Iranian Artists Forum is attracting a lot of attention, and we are also seeing amazing enthusiasm in the student category,” he said.
Siavash Yagoubi, a member of the poster design team, who also spoke at the event, said, “Despite the challenges, we tried to present new changes with our posters. Therefore, apart from the main poster, we also tried to offer something different in the posters of the various sections. For example, in the Iran section, we tried to represent the symbols of Iran, and we referenced the 6th century Nishapur pottery, which is unique to Iran and reminiscent of our civilization.”
“For the international poster, we used the work of Dutch artist MC Escher. The oriental orientation of his work has a special meaning,” he said.
Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898-1972) was a Dutch graphic artist who created woodcuts, lithographs, and mezzotints, many of which were inspired by mathematics. His work features mathematical objects and operations such as impossible objects, infinite exploration, reflection, symmetry, perspective, truncated polyhedra, star polyhedra, hyperbolic geometry, and tessellation.
The Iranian International Documentary Film Festival “Cinema Verité” is organized by the Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC). This festival seeks to express the relationship between reality and truth through documentary films.
The 19th festival will be held in Tehran from December 10th to 17th.
