Iranian Tehran 8 Films will take part in India’s 23rd Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) from February 13th to 20th.
Iranian participants in the Global Cinema Section include “End of the Day”, directed by Babak Balam Beigi, “Captain” by Mohammad Hamei, “The Land of the Brothers”, Alireza Gasemi and Raha Amirfazli, and Parvisiz. Includes “Roxana”. Shabaji, Mojang Bayat’s “Shuma”, Mahmoud Kalali’s “Summer”, Oktai Baraheni’s “Old Bachelor” and Ahmad Barami’s “Shautzman”.
“The End of the Day” is a 99-minute film made in 2024. It shows a day in the lives of three young women of different generations, each dealing with an emotional crisis.
The cast includes Honey Tabasori, Mahatab Vertati, Sheyeste Sajadi, Shabnam Mogadami and Reza Bebode.
“Captain,” which ran for 90 minutes, was produced in 2023. It shows two boys, Isa and Ali. Isa and Ali dream of becoming soccer players while they are in the cancer department of a children’s hospital.
Pantea Panahiha, Pejman Bazeghi, Sepideh Eydi, Amir Hossein Bayat and Parham Gholamlou are on the cast.
Under the shadow of American invasion, on “brothers’ lands”, the expanded Afghan refugee families begin a new life in Iran without knowing the ultimate price expected of them as outliers in this environment.
The 2024 co-production cast in Iran, France and the Netherlands includes Hamide Jafari, Bashir Nikzad and Mohammad Hosseini.
“Roxana” was created in 2023. The two-hour film is about Fred, an unemployed young man who lives with his sick mother. He films the wedding and meets Roxana, who will become her assistant. When they face some problems, they have to find a way to deal with them.
Yasna Pourtahmasb, Mahsa Akbarabadi, Maedeh Tahmasbi, Behrang Alavi and Rambod Motalebi will perform in the film.
In “Shuma”, Mitra is a single mother who runs an ecotourism complex with her son Urband. When the body of a war-killed diver is found, there is no clue for Mitra’s husband, so she decides to find him.
Fatemeh Motamed-Arya, Pejman Bazeghi and Rouzbeh Hesari are in the cast of the 94-minute film produced in 2024.
“Daytime” was produced in 2024. The story follows two young cousins, Atta and Masi, who navigate the innocence of childhood in Tehran in 1953. Decades later, 77-year-old Atta, who was overseas, returned to Iran and visited his old home. There, memories of childhood bonds, betrayals and enduring emotions become flooded.
The 108-minute film cast includes Ali Shadman, Fariba Nadeli, Ryan Salak, Ronika Baramzadeh and Samira Hassanpur.
“The Old Bachelor” is a 2024 production company. They live with their bullying father by about two middle-aged brothers. When a man kicks out the upper apartment to a young woman, the family condition deteriorates and reaches a breakpoint.
Leila Hatami, Hamed Behdad, Hassan Pourshirazi and Mohammad Valizadegan perform in the world-rated films.
“The Wainteman” depicts the pointlessness of a strange, quiet village in all apparent life, where a middle-aged wagon driver runs through lifeless corpses towards the cemetery.
Ali Bagheri is the only actor to perform in the 89-minute film produced in 2024, and has appeared at several international festivals so far.
Pune International Film Festival began in 2002 with the idea of building and promoting a healthy film culture in Pune. The aim is to give urban film enthusiasts access to global cinema and induce cultural exchange. Discussions, lectures and masterclasses on a variety of craft-related topics will attempt to instill academic flavours in the festival.
Every edition of Piff has a unique contemporary theme. The highly acclaimed international ju umpire decides the film’s award in the competitive section.
The Maharashtra government has recognized Piff as the official festival of 2010. It is the only festival that gives international recognition to Marathi films. Every year, PIFF continues to grow with the participation of increasingly skilled film characters, emerging filmmakers and film enthusiasts.
