Tehran-The 22nd Tehran auction totaled $2.5 million (R2.25 trillion) on Friday evening.
The auction, titled “Modern, Classical and Traditional Iranian Art,” was held at the Persian Azadi International Hotel in Tehran, with narrator and actor Shariar Rabani as the auctioneer.
The edition presented 99 artworks to art lovers, including 69 paintings, 10 calligraphy, nine sculptures and engraved metalwork, six manuscripts, and six painting carpets. In the end, 84 were sold.
More than 83% of the artwork sales at this event show strong receptions from art collectors, highlighting the success of Iranian art.
One of the key features of the 22nd Tehran auction is the work by modernist artists, including Aidin Agdashru, Mohammad Aesaei, Mansour Gandriz, Mansour Gandriz, Jazein Kasemi and Bedijat Saddle, along with the collection of Aidin Art. It includes the following:
Another notable aspect of this auction focused on the continuation of Iran’s rich artistic heritage. The event featured miniature paintings in Persian, from the Safavid era to contemporary artists. The calligraphy section exhibited works from the Timrid era to the present, reflecting the preservation of this art throughout Iranian history.
A total of 34 bidders participated in the auction, with eight buyers entering the art market for the first time.
The most collected piece at the auction was a painting of “Portrait of a Sitting Girl” by Reza Abbasi, which sold for $264,000 (R22.44 billion). The second highest sales were engraved candlesticks by Hossein Alaghmandan, which won $134,588 (R114.4 billion). Third place was shared between the painting “Genesis” by Mahmoud Farshchian and “Forgiveness” by Wahed Khakdan.
The first terren auction of this kind in Iran was launched in 2012 as an independent private initiative, ranging from Iranian artists to best Iranian artists to art collectors and global audiences.
It aims to address the growing interest in contemporary and contemporary Iranian art and promote the acquisition of quality works in a reliable way.
