Tehran – Institute for Intellectual Development of Iranian Children and Young Adults – Kanoon recently released three titles from the Gaza Poetry Collection in English, Arabic and Russian.
The collection consists of three books written by Zahra Araqi and illustrated by Mahshid Darabi, entitled Paper Rocket. “You laugh again,” written by Taybe Shamani and written by Bahale Kodami. Written by Monire Hashemi and drawn by Neda Asgari, The House Stand is all printed in three languages.
The English translation of the three titles was completed by Shahryar Fasih, the Arabic version was translated by Yasser Zanganeh and Mojdeh Pakseresht, and Tahereh Ghamarpour processed the Russian translation.
In “Paper Rocket”, “You Laugh Again”, “The House Stands”, the poet truly reflects the tragic events in Gaza through the light-handed and lyrical prose of Palestinian children.
“Paper Rocket” and “You Will Laugh” are available in small formats for children aged 7 and up, while “The House Stand” is available in a larger format for readers aged 12 and up.
Since October 7, 2023, and following the Israeli attacks, the lives of countless Gazan children have been transformed forever by violence and trauma. Tragically, more than 18,000 children lost their lives in the battle, making up a significant portion of the overall death toll of around 47,000 Palestinians.
The bombing not only took lives, but also seriously injured many children. At least 110,265 injuries have been reported, and the thousands of children in need of life-changing rehabilitation have a profound impact on their future. Hospitals and clinics are overwhelmed, and due to infrastructure blockades and destruction, access to proper medical care is often lacking.
The UN reports that nearly two million people in Gaza, including countless children, have been displaced internally and rely on inadequate shelters and declining supplies. Without urgent intervention, generations of children may grow up knowing only about suffering, evacuation and loss, but the stories of resilience and survival are almost unheard of.
