TEHRAN – Iran is participating in the 28th Algiers International Book Fair, which opened on October 29 at the Exhibition Palace in Algiers, the capital of Algeria.
Thanks to the continuous efforts of the Iranian Library and Literature Museum and the Iranian Cultural Representative Office in Algeria, the publishing industry of the Islamic Republic of Iran participated in this event for the first time in several years.
According to a report by IRNA, representing Iran at this cultural event, the Iranian Library and Literature Museum presented literary works, professional publications, and cultural programs, displaying hundreds of titles from various fields.
According to reports, people’s expression of emotion towards Iran’s presence was very evident, with many showing interest and respect by taking photos with the Islamic Republic’s flag.
The opening ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Saifi Gharib, Algeria’s Minister of Culture, and this year’s guest of honor, Mauritania’s Minister of Culture and Communication. Alongside the main exhibition, a number of cultural panels and literary debates focusing on the theme of Palestinian resistance will be held.
A total of 1,254 publishers from 49 countries participated in this year’s trade show. The fair, with the theme “The Book: A Meeting Place of Cultures”, will bring together over 250 writers and intellectuals from Algeria, Africa and other countries around the world, as well as 290 Algerian publishers, 410 publishers from Arab countries and 554 foreign publishers.
The fair’s cultural program will include 55 events, including lectures and seminars on novels and children’s literature, as well as sessions focused on creativity, memory and history in the age of artificial intelligence, and an evening of poetry championing humanitarian causes. The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is this year’s guest of honor.
The Algiers International Book Fair is one of the most prominent cultural events in Africa and the Arab world and is Algeria’s largest international trade fair.
Each year, it attracts millions of visitors, thousands of local and international publishers, and hosts a vibrant cultural program featuring hundreds of famous authors and influential literary figures.
This is more than just a book fair. It is a center of dialogue, diversity, cooperation and exchange, and celebrates literature in all its forms. This year’s event will run until November 8th.
