TEHRAN – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei expressed his condolences on the martyrdom of former Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Foreign Strategic Council Dr. Kamal Khalaj.
In the message, the leader described Qaraji as a distinguished scholar and experienced diplomat, and said his martyrdom was a “badge of honor for Iran’s academic and political elite” and “a shameful proof of American and Zionist arrogance.”
Mr. Karaj, who also served as Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations and director of the Cognitive Science Institute, was wounded and martyred in an attack by the United States and Israel. His wife was also martyred in the same attack.
Earlier, President Massoud Pezeshkian expressed his condolences over the assassination of Karaji, describing him as a “distinguished, dedicated and influential figure” in Iran’s diplomatic establishment and highlighting his achievements in the decades following the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
“He spent many years of his noble life with integrity, tact, and deep fidelity to the ideals of the Islamic revolution in important positions such as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Iran to the United Nations,” Pezeshkian said.
Attorney General Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei also issued a statement. He said the late diplomat was an “influential heavyweight” in various political fields.
